SWAMP STORY
ANISA KUNST is a creative alias of Aleksandra Ianchenko, a visual artist, researcher and curator. She holds a doctoral degree from Tallinn University (Estonia) and Åbo Akademi University (Finland). Her PhD dissertation, "Estranging Trams: Atmospheres of Trams in Art," draws on her artistic practice. Previously, Aleksandra earned master's degrees in monumental and decorative art and in arts management.
The exhibition tells a fictional story of first love presented through paintings and comics.
The story's protagonists are two creatures living in a swamp. Long stems grow from their backs. The stems end in buds that, when the creatures are aroused, bloom into large, lotus-like flowers. Thanks to these stems and flowers, they can breathe underwater and communicate with other swamp dwellers: swans, fish, and frogs.
Through these fictional characters, the story reflects the fragility of love and connection with another person. This experience encompasses shyness, erotic tension, all-consuming passion, and the weight of mutual attachment.
