Hieu Vo

Hi I’m Hieu, I’m a photographer and ceramic artist based in Helsinki, Finland.

My works express my inner world through an emphasis on repeated natural subjects and movements. They are my efforts to connect with people and culture, not only with my parents and close family members living in Vietnam, but also with those in Finland.

With ceramics, I create unique patterns using Nerikomi - or layered clay techniques - to reflect the intricate beauties of nature through flower and plant motifs. My current focus is my long-term project “Every flower is a piece of home”, where I aim to create 1000 pieces of work, each is inspired by a kind of flower, either one from my immediate surroundings and nature of Finland, or one from my memory growing up in Vietnam. The project tells the story of living in a foreign land, finding a connection to the land itself, and reconnecting to cultures and root values.

Pauliina Cross

Pauliina Cross is a Helsinki-based abstract visual artist working in Pukinmäki, Helsinki. Her practice is driven by a deep desire to understand the people around her, their motivations, and their experiences of belonging and alienation. Cross’s works are held in private collections across Europe and the United States.

Her work is process-driven, always beginning with an emotional state or personal experience. Her paintings often explore the longing for connection and the uncertainty that arises when we encounter ourselves or others with honesty and vulnerability, while carrying an ever-present sense of longing. By layering acrylic paint first, followed by oil paints and oil sticks, Cross seeks to portray the inner architecture of emotions through colour, form, and the interplay and blending of these elements. Her works feature a geological sense of rhythm and layered texture, created through the use of various mediums, as well as sand and cold wax. Cross also makes her own frames from light pine moulding.

“My process is a kind of dialogue with the emerging work. Layer by layer, I bring my emotions onto the canvas, which in turn presents a counterargument. The process demands radical honesty, as I believe belonging does, too. The finished works always reveal the journey taken: the layers, the courage, and a certain uncertainty that is an essential part of all human emotions.”

Iina Huikari

I'm Iina Huikari, a Finnish synesthesia artist who sees music as colors, shapes and movement. Through my art, I transform my personal experience of sound-to-color synesthesia into visual form, turning songs into paintings that can be seen as well as heard. My work invites viewers to experience music from a new perspective and to glimpse what songs look like through the eyes of a synesthete. My goal is to build a bridge between the senses and bring the colors of music to life.

Saara Pernu

Saara Pernu is a Helsinki-based, self-taught artist and architect. Working primarily with oils, she moves between representational and abstract painting.

Art has been a constant presence throughout Saara’s life. For her, art is a way of observing and interpreting the world, expressing emotion, and pausing in the present to see the beauty around us.

Saara’s work explores what gives moments their meaning and how we experience the world around us. Her subjects vary, but are connected by an interest in the details, emotions, and beauty found in seemingly ordinary moments.

Through her paintings, she invites the viewer to pause, look closer, and find their own meaning in what they see.

Irene Dikur

Mixed media artist. I create mosaics from hand painted eggshells.
I collect and paint the eggshells myself and then arrange the small pieces one by one to create an image. It is a slow and time-consuming process that requires patience, but for me it is also very meditative. I enjoy the quietness of the process and watching the work slowly come together from many small pieces.
I like working with eggshell because it is a simple and fragile material that can be transformed into something unexpected.

Liisa Kevin

Liisa Kevin (b. 2000, Helsinki) graduated from Pekka Halonen Academy and is currently studying Art Education at Aalto University. Her primary medium is analogue photography, and she is fascinated by combining it with other techniques, such as printmaking.

She is drawn to the analogue world because the tangible, hands-on process brings a sense of presence and sensitivity to her work. The feel of materials, textures, and imperfections are important to her across all mediums. She often photographs using long exposure times, allowing images to emerge on film that are invisible to the naked eye, such as fleeting, ghostlike figures appearing in mysterious places.

In her practice, she enjoys moments when observation transforms into something unreal and playful. When working with film, she only discovers later what has emerged in the images. It is a delicate and fascinating risk, one that requires surrender.

Agnieszka Wajda-Hänninen

I am a Polish-born painter based in Tuusula, with a weakness for colour and things that are slightly out of place.

A painting can start with almost anything, even a sock. I’m interested in what happens when an ordinary object slips away from what it is supposed to be and turns into colour, movement and something a little strange.
