Grant Writing Workshop for Artists‍ ‍

Saturday 15.8.2026 10:30–12:00

ONLINE

What the workshop covers

This workshop focuses on how to plan and write strong grant applications as an individual artist or as part of a working group.

We will cover how to structure your proposal, what to include, and how to clearly communicate the value of your work in relation to your artistic practice and field and how to avoid jargon.

We will also address challenging sections, such as defining the relevance and impact of the project and identifying the target audience, and we will compare the application structures of major Finnish funding bodies.

Participants will learn how to write an effective summary and receive practical frameworks they can apply directly to their next grant application.

Who it’s for

Designed for artists and creatives working with individual or working group projects. No previous experience with grant writing is required, but the workshop is especially useful for artists who already have a basic understanding of the Finnish art grant system. You do not need to have a ready application to participate.

NOTE: This workshop focuses on applications for individual artists and working groups. It does not cover grant applications for organizations.

About the lecturer

The workshop is led by interdisciplinary artist and PhD Hanna-Maija Pääkkönen, who has over 15 years of experience with grant applications and has worked with the support of grants from, for example, the Wihuri Foundation, Kone Foundation, the Finnish Cultural Foundation (SKR), the University of Helsinki Science Foundation, the City of Helsinki, Taike, and the Finnish Nonfiction Writers’ Association, among others.
