Meet the artists

Kasperi Leo Holopainen

Kasperi Leo Holopainen (b. 1994) is a visual artist from Helsinki, Finland. His style is often very abstract and expressive, and he manages to transform his own existential experience into a sensation of an artwork. Inspiration comes from various places including nature, popular culture and ancient history. Through the art Kasperi Leo expresses his inner feelings and thoughts, and the finished artworks act as windows to a world that does not exist. The motivation to paint and make art is very abstract and often the real subject of the artwork is art itself. The art is not trying to mimic anything that is already existing, thus it becomes the very thing it is expressing. Each piece is titled as a calendar date and they work as Kasperi Leo´s own visual diary. Sometimes there is an alternative title to the work as it makes the art easier to approach.

Suvi Berg

My first contact with photography was through the many memories from my childhood captured on our family's disposable cameras. My great-uncle was a visual artist in 1920s America, and I have drawn inspiration from his works for my own frames since early adolescence.
As a neurodivergent member of a sexual minority myself, I want my art to take a stand on difference and stigma. My goal is not only to reveal the unique beauty of every 'different' person—beauty that our world does its best to suppress—but specifically to highlight and celebrate those features that politeness would suggest we not mention.

Laura Heino-Laurila

Laura Heino-Laurila’s artistic practice centers on the subtle beauty of deep blacks and expressive lines. She is especially drawn to the intricate and unpredictable process of intaglio printmaking, particularly etching. For her, the inability to fully control the outcome creates space for openness and humanity—qualities she deeply values in her work.

Her pieces often take shape as series, unfolding in narrative layers that reflect on the human experience. She draws inspiration from children’s books, imagined worlds, fairy tales, and myths.

She graduated in 2024 with a degree in Fine Arts from the Arts Academy at Turku University of Applied Sciences.

Viivi Kangas

Viivi Kangas is a visual artist whose works primarily consist of printmaking and ceramics. She graduated in 2012 from the Lybecker Institute of Crafts and Design, where she majored in printmaking. During her studies, she also discovered three-dimensional work and developed an interest in sculpture. In 2021, she graduated from Häme University of Applied Sciences as a glass and ceramics designer. Studying these two fields of art has given her the opportunity to work in various ways, experimenting with both traditional and contemporary techniques.

Kangas seeks ways to combine emotional expression with the interplay of different textures, creating works that speak to the viewer’s emotions and senses. Her goal is to create pieces that are not only visually engaging but also evoke reflection and feelings in the viewer. Kangas hopes her works offer a space where the viewer can pause and see everyday things in a new light. She believes that the role of art is to encourage us to reflect on our own experiences. Art is a pathway that opens up new ways of seeing the world and discovering beauty in places where it might not be noticed at first glance.

Laura Itkonen

Laura Itkonen is a Finnish artist (MA) living and working in Helsinki. The focus of her work is on visually detailed, tactile architectural ceramics and on sculptural emphasis with an experimental approach to the material and the chemistry in it. Influenced by geometrical forms and abstract, figurative expression, she creates contrasting entities, often collage-like.

Itkonen's approach to materials emphasises their distinctive characteristics, creating a dialogue between texture and form, while the meticulous shapes crafted through various techniques bring coherence to the entity. Opposites and contrasts and their interactions are a unifying factor in her work.

Her work has been exhibited both domestically and internationally. Itkonen has created several public works and her works can be found in public and private collections.

Olivia Leino

I am an illustrator and graphic designer based in Helsinki, working at the intersection of visual art and illustration. In my works, I explore humanity and the fragility of existence through the motif of birds. My signature style features symbolism and abstract expression, where the bird serves as a metaphor for the human being. Surrounding the bird are intricate symbols that delve into themes such as empathy, connection, and the fleeting nature of life. My goal is to evoke compassion in people amid the fast-paced and reactive world we live in today.
