Francisca Henneman

As a child, Francisca retired to the attic to make clothes for her Barbie. Knitting, crocheting, sewing everything was covered. And the works are still being created in her safe studio. Working undisturbed, experimenting and trying to amaze themselves by pushing the boundaries of possibilities in technique and material.

After trying out various materials and disciplines such as sculpture, ceramics and theatre clothing, she continued to look for the material that appeals to her the most and Francisca ended up with flexible material such as rubber and silicone.
Always looking for special materials for the parts and then thinking about what the connection will be. This is how the unique jewelry was created under the label Difranci (2006) made with the remains from the industry. The slogan is: Chic, Tough and Different.

Through a presentation in an International Textile Exhibition, she was inspired by a different view of her work to start making objects.

Since 2018, the work has shifted to more spatially visual work. Some stand-alone objects in color and the works in the white collection Bleached show a diversity of texture, structure and shape. Working from a traditional technique such as crocheting or needlework, a systematic structure grows and the shapes are created.
There is a great urge to do different things with the material than what they are actually intended for. To want to make this distinction is part of her identity.

The sculptures often have organic shapes that refer to nature or natural growth.
Hydrozoa Caerulo II is a polyp colony with seaweed. They intertwine with each other.
The materials are rubber and silicone discarded materials from the industry. Crocheted with yarn.
The Möbius band is a characteristic figure that can often be found in the work.

The object is then ready to interact with the audience in the wider world from the studio. And making the viewer wonder is stimulating.
She exhibits all over the world.

Natalia Lomaia

Natalia Lomaia is a writer from Tbilisi, Georgia, based in Berlin. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, World Literature Today, and the Cleveland Review of Books, among other publications. Lomaia's work investigates the psychic undercurrents of experience: the limits of language, the mystical and opaque, and that which resists symbolic capture—what cannot be fully contained by narrative or form.

Artwork information: My Winter Days Are Spent Forgetting is a visual prose poem (print 50X70) by Natalia Lomaia. The poem explores memory, forgetting, presence, and absence. The act of forgetting becomes inseparable from the act of remembering, while absence becomes a kind of haunting – a strange presence.
